Lion Dance
The Minnesota Vietnamese Language School offers opportunities for students to take advantage of our activity time to develop their talents in dance alongside our school volunteers and Asian American professionals in cultural performance, dance, and music. We encourage students to tap into their creative passions and combine that with their cultural heritage and lived experiences.
An essential part of Vietnamese cultural tradition is the showcasing of múa lân (lion dances). The art of lion dances and its coordinated movements require high skill, challenging synchronization, and adept strength and agility.
Students have the opportunity to begin learning the art form of lion dances, drumming, and its significance to Vietnamese culture with partnership of local múa lân groups. We bring together our communities and showcase múa lân each year at our Tết (Lunar New Year) Festival to bless our new year with fortune, prosperity, and happiness along with ward off evil spirits.
