Traditional and Hip-Hop Dance
The Minnesota Vietnamese Language School offers opportunities for students to take advantage of our activity time to develop their talents in dance alongside our school volunteers and Asian American professionals in cultural performance, dance, and music. We encourage students to tap into their creative passions and combine that with their cultural heritage and lived experiences.
Our students have the chance to learn cultural performance and artistry every Sunday during our activity time. Volunteers from our Minnesota Asian American arts and theater communities perform and offer classes with our students and teachers. In recent years, artists from Theater Mu, the University of Minnesota, and St. Thomas University spent time with our students and teachers creating skits, comedies, dances, and plays tapping into traditional and modern Vietnamese forms.
Each year, we bring together our students, families, and communities across Minnesota to celebrate Tết (Lunar New Year). At our festival gathering, our students and teachers work together in the preceding months to create traditional fan dances, hat dances, and hip-hop infused choreography and performances to showcase their talent and creative passions.
These performances blend Vietnamese cultural heritage and our stories living and growing up in the United States and Minnesota.
